Graphic User Interface Design for Crestron Vision Tools Templates
Do you really only work on one Web site at a time?
Sort of. GuiRanch™ works on each project exclusively until it reaches 75% completion. It is our belief that regardless of how streamlined a process is, it still requires undivided attention during the first three-quarters of the production cycle. Only when the project reaches final revision (and the client needs time to develop a final punch list) do we begin discovery on our next project.
How long does a typical Web site take to develop?
That’s largely up to the client. If we receive the materials and a well defined design spec, we can have a typical site ready for the public in three to four weeks. That’s typically two weeks from the time the design is finalized. If the client drives scope creep or doesn’t get the materials to us in a timely fashion, this can be extended.
What can I do to streamline the process?
Have your photos, copy, and other notes ready to go. In your design scope, supply us with three Web site URLs you love and three that you hate. You’d be surprised how much that helps communicate what you may have had trouble vocalizing. When writing your content, please prepare 2-3 phrases, each phrase being 2-4 words, of what a laymen would enter into a search engine (like Google) to find your site. Be sure to ask colleagues and clients what they would use to search for you as well. This will help us prepare the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for your Web site.
How custom can a Web site be designed within your framework?
Extremely custom. With the power of cascading style sheets (CSS) and PHP we can do anything with a design. That being said, the more you wish to deviate from our standard approach, the more complicated your site becomes to edit. This can considerably increase edit times and make it more difficult if you wish to edit the site yourself. e.g. To achieve some client driven effects we may have to embed programming code into the areas you access to maintain/edit your site. Should you accidentally delete this code you could crash pages or lose features.
How come none of your sites are Flash based?
Flash is a fantastic tecnhology for many uses. However, since search engines cannot read text inside of flash components, your exposure in search engine results is greatly reduced. For this reason alone, we believe that Flash is not yet ideal as a total Web design solution. This doesn’t mean that your site cannot contain Flash elements such as video players, animations, and similar items.
